TheBigWeekend - A Recap

TheBigWeekend. Oh my gosh. My Apologies if you weren’t able to grace us with your presence on the weekend, because this blog post will most likely force you into deep regret for not coming, despair for not hearing God’s word preached so faithfully, and apprehension for any future thought about missing anything TheBigThing related. For those who are nostalgic, and want a recap… keep reading ahead!

Day 1- An evening with Dirks

And Bam. You arrive Friday evening to be welcome by a dance party, confectionary of all sorts and an exhibit of friendly water-dwelling creatures that are up for adoption.  Yes. You could have adopted a goldfish. Why didn’t you? I’m not sure.

Session 1 – Blankets and beanbags baby. As discussed, we don’t do pews. Heck we’re not that crazy about chairs either. Praising God with our awesome worship team, then we meet old mate Dirks!!  Lounging back we learnt the ins and outs of our new Pastor, and boy does this kid fit the bill. Exciting times ahead my friends.

Day 2 – Nerfmania.

Early morning risers got to experience Goto’s Gourmet coffees and breakfast treats, which we are all so thankful for – What a blessing to have the hills best barista making hipster coffees on our weekend away!

Mowhawke

Session two was rudely interrupted by a viral video requesting we open our ‘Presents’ received the night before. And there it is… NERF GUNS. The game was simple. When the horn blows, eliminate your target. Last man standing wins. Life will never be the same after TheBigWeekend. Nerf is lifestyle, not a hobby. Congrats to those who fought valiantly, and shame to those who were dishonourable in their game play.

Day 2 finished with our good friend and resident deck spinner DJ OH BOY, throwing down a mix from the 80’s. Pastel. Leather. Mullets. Side ponies. Spandex. Frilled socks. Hair Spray. Our community went all out in their 80’s outfits, and left nothing to spare on the dance floor.

Day 3 – Trajectory

Recovering from our flashback moments the night before, Sunday was all about our future. Shane had brought the word in a big way, and both our communal and individual walk with Jesus was challenged. Big things are happening this year, and it is a pleasure to be seeing these come to pass under the leadership of one Shane Dirks.

So there we have it, a quick glimpse of the weekend that was. Shout outs to Mumma’s Sweet kitchen, Matt Goto and his coffee making skills, our friends who ran the café and welcome parties, and all our volunteer helpers on camp. If you haven’t got much out of this blog, here are three things you NEED to know:

1-    ITS EXCITING TIMES AS A YOUNG ADULT

2-    ITS EXCITING TIMES AT ST PAULS CASTLE HILL

3-    ITS EXCITING TIMES TO BE DOING LIFE WITH JESUS

Stay posted for TheBigThing to be changing your life around Easter time!

TheBigWeekend

TheBigWeekend is the birth of something great. The best of the best. It may even be a little too much to handle at points. We are packing up our Wednesday night do’s, putting them in a box, cruising for 40 minutes and throwing them all over Galston Gorge for one weekend! We are about to take everything we’ve ever done to a WHOLE NUTHA LEVEL!

There is literally so much going on, it can’t all be listed on this little blog. Here’s a few crucials for you to list down:

When: 7pm FRIDAY 24TH FEBURARY – 3pm SUNDAY 26TH FEBUARY. That’s roughly 44 hours of community, worship, teaching, dance partying and general good times.

Who: NOT everyone! Because of limited space onsite, there is actually a limit to who we can have. This means you NEED to register ASAP so you don’t miss your seat!

Why: People and Jesus. Jesus and People. Get it?

Special Guests: MR. SHANE DIRKS. Our brand spanking new Young Adults Pastor is coming, and is ready to bring the word of God. He is ready, so the balls in your court. Get ready and get registered. I dare you!

We are so excited to be able to get away as a community of believers and spend time with Jesus, and with his people. This weekend is going to be the start of something amazing, and we are so keen to have YOU with US at TheBigWeekend.

Welcome back Craig Hamilton

Meet Craig Hamilton. Youth Pastor at Glenmore Park Anglican Church. Husband of Nicole and father to three kids with really sweet names; Avalon, Willow and Ezekiel. Preacher, Pastor, Worshiper, Teacher and Pro wrestling enthusiast.  This guy is a bag of fun. Extra Large. Filled to the brim.

Feeling like you know those big blue eyes and cheeky smirk? You probably do! Before residing in Sydney’s wild wild west, Craig was a Castle Hill boy, growing up through our very own Youth Group, Crossfire. It is an absolute pleasure to be welcoming back an old friend and brother in Christ to be bringing the word at TheBigChristmasThing.

Craig is super excited to be coming back to his old stomping ground, and is getting together a sermon that is definitely worth hearing. Craig also reminisced about a  ‘Razey wrestle’ when we caught up with him… Anyone who knows what he is talking about should definitely come and trade war stories and battle scars on the night.

Details of TheBigChristmasThing are on Facebook. We are going to be partying with our mate Craig from 6:30, so bring your friends, bring yourselves and get ready for the holiday Season!
